What is Asperger's Syndrome
People with Asperger syndrome perceive the world differently from everyone else.
Some people call autism a 'diffability'.
I am a blue butterfly in a field of meadow browns.
Asperger syndrome (AS) is a condition on the autism spectrum. We at Autonomy do not see AS as a disability, just a social difference or "different wiring".
People with AS may have some difficulties with social communication and interaction, being flexible, seeing another person's view, sensory issues and anxiety. AS can also tend to affect a person's ability to make and sustain friendships, which is why our social groups are so successful. People with AS may also be very intelligent and are often able to concentrate and focus on a subject, achieving a high level of skill in their area of interest and want to talk to others about these interests too!
There is a lot of information on Asperger syndrome on the internet. Try some of our links to other web pages and groups.
